Faith & Social Justice: In the spirit of Richard Overton and the 17th C. Levellers

Moratorium

There will be no activity on this blog for at least a week.  I need to fight depression again–and an urge to take my family and flee to a country that actually respects human rights.  If I write more, I will rant.

  2. I have struggled with depression my entire life. Currently, I am depressed over the moral state of my government, my society, and the majority of U.S. Christians who are in favor of war, torture, unlawful detentions, etc. I now just want to leave, but am too poor to do so.

  4. Best wishes. I have never suffered depression (sometimes I’m pessimist, but this is not a medical condition), so I don’t know how to deal with that, but I pray you’ll get better (or find a solution).

  5. Michael,
Thanks for letting us know. This gives us some
idea of how to pray for you. So, I will be in prayer
and I hope you’ll just take your family and go take
a break. Please come back safely. We need you.

  7. Michael,

I have also had a lifelong (since adolescence) history of phases of depression. About 20 years ago I tried Prozac which affected me like “crazy pills”. Not good. About 8 years ago I wound up trying Paxil. For me it is a wonder drug. Also it is available from Walmart in a generic form for about ten dollars a month. Good. I’m not making any kind of a recomendation here, just passing along a bit of my experience, for what it might be worth.

Now, I think you are a really good guy and find your blog, well, wonderful. Folks like you do make a difference.

  8. Steve, I am under a doctor’s care, but can’t take Paxil. It increases my aggression. Intead of depressed, I get angry all the time. So, I can’t use Paxil.🙂

  9. Yeah, my experience with Prozac made me very leery of trying any other medications. Sounds like Paxil is anti-Pax in your body. Well hang in there Bro, I’ll be sending some hippie-love your way. Don’t we all wish we had silver bullets to dispense wherever needed to combat whatever needs combated?
